Ranking of Ukrainian universities according to the scientometric database SciVerse Scopus
The rating was compiled by the URAN Publishing Service by order of the Osvita.ua website (The data presented in the table are valid as of April 5, 2017).
The worst index is N if a scientist or scientific institution has published N scientific articles, each of which has been cited at least N times, and the other articles have been cited less than N times. For example, the index of Kiev National University. Shevchenko is 79, which means that this school has published 79 scientific articles, each of which is cited at least 79 times. Other articles by Shevchenko University have been cited less than 79 times.
“Scopus” is a bibliographic and abstract database, as well as a tool for tracking the citation of articles published in scientific journals. The database indexes more than 20,000 scientific publications in technical, medical and humanities. Also, the database includes publications of scientific journals, conference proceedings and books. The developer and owner of “Scopus” is the publishing corporation “Elsevier”. Scopus data are used, among other things, in compiling some rankings of the world’s leading universities. For example, Times Higher Education or QS World University Rankings.

Ranking of universities according to Scopus indicators in 2018
URAN Publishing Service, by order, conducted scientometric monitoring of subjects of scientific and publishing activities of Ukraine on the indicators of the SciVerse Scopus database, on the basis of which the rating of Ukrainian higher education institutions was compiled.
The results of the ranking of higher education institutions are based on the indicators of the Scopus database, which is a tool for tracking the citation of scientific articles published by the educational institution or its employees. The Scopus database constantly indexes more than 20,000 scientific journals and hundreds of book series.
As of April 2018, the Scopus database includes 162 institutions of higher education in Ukraine, which is 26 educational institutions more than in April 2017.
In the ranking table, higher education institutions in Ukraine are ranked according to the Hirsch index – a quantitative indicator based on the number of scientific publications and the number of citations.
According to the rating, the highest Hirsch index among Ukrainian universities have Kiev National University. Shevchenko – 84 (79 in the ranking of 2017), Kharkiv National University. Karazina – 65 (60) and Lviv National University. Franco – 55 (50), who moved from the third step Chernivtsi National University. Fedkovich – 54 (51).
As last year, the fifth place was taken by Odessa National University. Mechnikova 53 (50).
Also did not change their positions, compared to last year, NTUU “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute named after Igor Sikorsky” with a score of 49 (43), Donetsk National Medical University (43) and Dnepropetrovsk National University. Potters (40), who took sixth, seventh and eighth place, respectively.
Lviv Polytechnic National University rose to ninth place, with 38 points in the Hirsch index.
Closes the top ten NTU “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” (38), which gave way to Lviv Polytechnic due to fewer publications.
